Charlie Hayes helping a customer in the show room

First and foremost we wish all of you a safe and successful year, both on and off the track!

The History of H. P. Speed:

Charlie began racing go-karts in 1972.  He was 19 years old when he started racing in the backyard tracks.  Later, he moved to an asphalt track in Mardela. Further on down, Charlie moved to the big track at Delmar known as Delaware International Speedway.

Once the children came along, Charlie stepped away from racing briefly, until the boys were old enough to start racing.

In 1986, we decided to start our own racing team under the name of H & H Racing.

In 1992, Chad started building his own motors. Soon after, Chad decided to start building customer motors under the name, H. P. Speed Racing Engines. H. P. standing for

“Hayes Power.”

Our family then moved to Gravel Hill, taking the business with us.  It was then we changed the name to H. P. Speed Karts - Parts & Racing Engines.  We began selling parts, scaling karts, rebuilding clutches, and building more motors.

With the continued growth in our business, we soon out grew the shop at our residence.

In 2002, we built our 2900 sq. ft. shop we use today, on Rt 9. (22091 Lewes Georgetown
Hwy Georgetown, DE 19947.)  We built a brand new Dyno Room, Machine/Engine Room, Set-Up Room, Tire Cutting Area, and a Show Room.

With the expansion, our oldest Son, Charles began doing kart graphix, lettering, decals, and license plates.

In the 22 years Chad & Charles have been racing, they have won many local, state, national, Grand National, world dirt championships, & money races.

Through the years we have now come to be known as:

“H.P. Speed Racing Engines – Karts – Parts & Graphix.”

Annual Open House is held in February each year
